Vocational Opportunities Clubs of Texas
Jaroy Carpenter,
On behalf of every CVAE CO-OP Coordinator in North Texas Region 2, District 6, of the Vocational Opportunities Clubs of Texas, I want to express a sincere and warm thanks to you and the members of your staff for an outstanding presentation given our high school students. Teachers from throughout North Texas have expressed to me that this has been the most effective district leadership conference ever presented in our organization.

One of the reasons the Texas State Board of Education has required vocational student organizations to be an integral part of high school vocational curriculum, is the fact that Texas high school students need to focus on building values, character, and self-esteem. These particular ingredients of our educational process are difficult to integrate into a textbook or classroom situation. Youth leadership opportunities such as found in student youth organizations provide the climate for adults to model these attributes and to interact on the student's level effectively.

The power of your presentation, the structured character building games and the spirit of team effort promoted by your staff, have motivated our students to reevaluate their own expectations in life and school. They are now also looking at what they expect from others in a new light. I told you before the weekend that these students are the "At Risk" students of our high school population. These are the students who have real problems with morality and respect for others and other's property. These are the students that typically create problems for high school faculty and staff. But you dealt with these young people with dignity and respect. You talked to them directly and with candor. You got their attention and created an interest from the very beginning of the program.

Continue your work inspiring the youth of Texas and the teachers of Texas will find it a lot easier to focus on our calling to facilitate learning in the minds of tomorrow's leaders.
Sincerely,
Don jones
